In this Turkish lesson you will learn Past Tense in Turkish, as part of Turkish Grammar for Beginners program. Direct and Indirect Simple Past Tenses are our topics, by teaching how to conjugate verbs in the Turkish Past Tenses. Let's continue learning Turkish, learning Tenses in Turkish! Learn Turkish grammar! Reported speech is another topic that you will find in this Turkish lesson. You might be living in Turkey or studying or working in Turkey, let's study Turkish and enhance our Turkish vocabulary while learning Turkish grammar. Past tenses in Turkish divided into two, therefore we will focus on 'Direct and Indirect Simple Past Tenses'. To give you a hint, indirect past tense is for the things you haven't seen or experienced, but you have heard, so it is reported speech for past events. Your new Turkish teacher will make sure that you understand the difference between these two tenses by providing loads of examples while making positive, negative, positive question and negative question sentences.
To provide further detail, actually in Turkish the Tenses divided into two; Simple Tenses and Compound Tenses. Past Tenses are also divided into two;
1- Definite / Known / Direct Simple Past Tense . This tense uses the suffix "-di" and therefore, it is also called in Turkish as "Di'li Geçmi? Zaman".
2- Indirect / Heard / Reported Simple Past Tense. This tense uses the suffix "-mi?" and therefore, it is called as "Mi?'li Geçmi? Zaman".

You have learnt Present Continuous Tense (Simdiki Zaman) and Present Simple Tense (Genis Zaman) with me and now it is time to learn Simple Past Tenses which are very important. You may need to learn basic Turkish language and even improve and become intermediate or advance speaker of Turkish. Your native speaker Turkish Teacher is here to help you in this journey. You have been learning Turkish for a while now, learned most of the basic expressions, introducing yourself, asking questions, learned adjectives and adverbs in Turkish.
In this video I will again remind you on the Turkish Vowel Harmony since it will make easy to understand how suffixes are changing. I sincerely recommend you to learn Vowel and Consonant Harmony at the beginning of your journey as it will make you to avoid memorising loads of things as you will know the main reason for everything. I have mentioned before Turkish Language is like mathematics, most things has a reason and it develops with "+ es". Agglutinative language it is!

Turkish language is very easy to learn as a result of its agglutinative and sound harmonic nature. And of course, as a result of the use and adaptation of the Latin alphabet and making it easy to read and write as it has letters for every sound used and do not need the 'phonetic alphabet'.
All you need to do is to follow these lessons, take notes and practice. Actually, I recommend taking screen shots for this particular video here. Then, you can practice with different verbs according to the guidelines provided.
One thing to note, please do not jump to this video without watching and practicing along with previous ones. I don't want you to make things too detailed and difficult with your start.
